Unani: How a Whimsical Handwritten Font Can Elevate Your Campaign Visuals

It was 2AM, and I was still tweaking the thumbnail for tomorrow’s YouTube launch campaign. The brand was introducing a new line of organic tea blends, and the visuals needed to feel warm, approachable, and just a little playful. I’d gone through a dozen font options, but nothing was landing quite right. That’s when I remembered Unani.

Unani is a handwritten script font that feels both friendly and confident. It has a soft, flowing structure with just enough quirk to make it memorable. It's not overly formal like some calligraphy fonts, nor is it too casual like a scribbled note. It strikes a perfect middle ground—whimsical but legible, expressive but clean. I dropped it in as the main headline on the thumbnail and immediately saw the difference.

Why Unani Works for Campaign Design

When you're building a campaign, especially one that spans multiple platforms like Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube, consistency in visual tone matters. Fonts are a big part of that. Unani brings a human touch to digital design. Whether you're creating a quote graphic for Instagram Stories, a product teaser for Pinterest, or a branded header for your email campaign, Unani adds personality without sacrificing clarity.

Real-World Use: Launching a Seasonal Product

Back to the tea campaign. We needed a consistent visual thread across all assets: social posts, YouTube thumbnails, email banners, and a landing page header. Each platform has its own constraints—small text space on a thumbnail, bold visual impact on a pinned Instagram post, and fast readability in a newsletter banner.

Unani handled all of it. We used it for the main tagline “Sip Into Spring” across all visuals. On the YouTube thumbnail, it stood out against a soft pastel background. On Instagram, it looked charming over a lifestyle photo of a tea cup and book. In the email header, it gave a warm, personal feel that contrasted nicely with the more structured body text.

Readability Tips for Using Unani

While Unani is highly readable for a script font, there are a few things to keep in mind when using it in fast-scrolling environments:

  1. Stick to short phrases—this is not a font for long paragraphs.
  2. Use it on light or dark backgrounds, but ensure good contrast.
  3. Be cautious with all caps; it can reduce legibility on small screens.
  4. Avoid using it at very small sizes; it shines best at medium to large display sizes.

Font Pairing Made Easy

One of the best things about Unani is how well it plays with other fonts. It’s a natural fit with minimalist sans serifs like Montserrat or Lato, which help ground the design and create visual balance. For a more editorial look, try pairing it with a serif font like Playfair Display for subheadings or quotes.

In the tea campaign, we used Unani for the main message and a clean sans serif for the supporting text. This helped maintain a visual hierarchy—Unani grabbed attention, while the sans serif delivered the details clearly.

What to Check Before Using Unani in Campaigns

Before you embed Unani in your campaign assets, especially for client work or commercial use, make sure you have the right licensing. Unani is typically sold as a premium font with commercial use rights, but it’s always worth double-checking the license terms before using it in ads, branded templates, or digital products.

Also, verify the included styles: look for alternates, ligatures, and multiple weights if you need flexibility. Some script fonts only come in one weight, which can limit their use in layered designs. Unani usually includes a few variations, giving you room to experiment without needing to swap fonts.

Where Unani Shines the Most

From my experience, Unani is best used in display contexts—think social media headers, product labels, quote graphics, webinar banners, and promotional overlays. It works well for logo-style text in branding kits, especially for lifestyle, wellness, or creative brands that want a warm, human feel.

It’s not ideal for body copy or long-form content, but as a headline or decorative text, it’s a standout. If you’re designing a branded content series or a set of digital ads, consider using Unani as your go-to headline font to create a consistent and recognizable visual identity.

Final Word: A Font That Feels Like a Signature

In the final hours before the tea campaign launched, I reviewed all the visuals one last time. The thumbnails, the Instagram posts, the email header—it all came together because of the tone Unani brought to the table. It wasn’t just a font choice; it was a storytelling tool.

If you're working on a campaign that needs a warm, approachable, and slightly whimsical touch, give Unani a try. It might just be the missing piece that makes your message feel more human, more memorable, and more engaging.
